The Secret of Monkey Island is an adventure game with the character Guybrush Threepwood being a wannabe pirate. This franchise is nearly 20 years old so that accounts for something. In order to become a pirate, Threepwood must prove himself as a swordsman, a treasure hunter, and a thief. This mean a whole plethora of riddles and action sequences that the player needs to solve. The Special Edition looks much better and is the only way to play if you want to hear, as well as read, what characters are saying, whereas the original game’s interface is less clunky. Many a times, when you are lost in trying to solve a riddle, like getting past a swarm of deadly creatures, there is a major portion of language and dialogues to be had. These originate from a varied range of human and non human fantastic characters. Some of the conversations are laugh-out-loud funny, and while the actors’ delivery isn’t always up to the standard of the writing, the voice work is such a great addition to the game that it’s difficult to go back to the original edition. This is one game that the player needs to experience first person. There are whole lot of varied missions, riddles, objects and more to be played with and cannot be fully described here. Nonetheless, this is surely not a disappointer. It is a sweet, intelligent and engrossing game that tries to and succeeds in deliver entertainment to the consumers.
